Design for a Housing Development in Northumberland
This is our initial design for a housing development in Northumberland.
The narrative for the project is to create a micro-community within the site and to remind inhabitants of their local history. This will create a sense of place and induce a feeling of belonging. We aim to achieve this by referencing historical structures and materials in the new architecture.
The spaces between the buildings will encourage people to spend more time together and trigger more social interactions between neighbours. It is hoped that the care the inhabitants have for the micro-community will spread throughout the village.
It is our intention to provide a highly sustainable and eco-friendly development, including renewable energy systems and adopting carbon conscious modern methods of construction, resulting in houses that meet Passive House standards.
Although constructed using modern methods, the buildings will present as traditional Northumberland homes, built of stone and slate. This will create a feeling of robustness, quality, low maintenance and most importantly permanence. These houses will be brilliant on the day of completion and for centuries to come.
